The short version
Fishare is operated by Fishare Oy. Most of Fishare is free, and there are no caps on catches, spots, forecast days or species. One paid tier, Fishare Pro, unlocks the ocean-intelligence map layers: US$5.99/mo or US$49.99/yr after a 7-day free trial, cancel any time.
Everything Fishare tells you about weather, tides, fishing rules and where the fish might be is information, not advice. Check the official source and use your own judgement — above all about safety.
Your catches stay yours, and you decide what gets shared publicly.
This summary is here to be readable. The numbered sections below are the terms that actually apply.
1. Who we are, and what these terms cover
Fishare (the "Service") is operated by Fishare Oy ("Fishare", "we", "us", "our"), founded in 2011 by Olli-Mikael Vaittinen. You can reach us at:
Fishare Oy
25/69 Pittwater Road, Manly, NSW 2095, Australia
Email: info@fishare.app
These Terms of Use apply to the website at fishare.app, the Fishare mobile apps, the public content pages, the club and competition tools, the Fishare connector for AI assistants, and every other part of the Service. They form a binding agreement between you and Fishare Oy.
By creating an account, subscribing, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create a Fishare account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf.
Junior anglers often appear in club competitions run on Fishare. Where a club enters a junior, the club and the junior's parent or guardian are responsible for that consent. Clubs can use alias display names for juniors.
3. What the Service is
Fishare gives anglers a read on conditions: hourly bite and access scores; tides, wind, swell, pressure and moon; a personal catch logbook; species, spot, boat-ramp, tackle-shop and fishing-regulation reference pages; club competitions and season ladders; photo-based fish identification; and a set of ocean-intelligence map layers — sea-surface temperature with front detection, chlorophyll-a, currents and eddies, a modelled subsurface temperature ladder, and a per-species habitat heatmap — with playback and a short forecast.
Free covers the whole product except the ocean-intelligence layers. There is no cap on how many catches you log, how many spots you save, how far ahead you can forecast, or how many species you look up. The ocean-intelligence layers are the single paid gate; free accounts see a limited preview window of them rather than the full map.
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Features change over time. We describe what the product does today, not what it will do forever.
4. Your account
Some features require an account. You agree to:
- Give accurate registration information
- Keep your credentials secure
- Tell us promptly about any unauthorised use of your account
- Accept responsibility for activity under your account
You can sign in with an email address and password, or through Google, Apple or Facebook. Using a third-party sign-in is also subject to that provider's own terms.
You can delete your account at any time — in the app, or from our account deletion page. Deleting your account ends this agreement. It does not by itself cancel a subscription bought through an app store; see section 5.5.
5. Fishare Pro — subscription, trial, renewal, cancellation and refunds
5.1 Price
Fishare Pro costs US$5.99/mo or US$49.99/yr. Prices are stated in United States dollars. Your bank or app store may convert to your local currency and may add a conversion fee, and taxes such as GST or VAT are added where they apply.
Fishare Pro is the only paid tier that can be bought today. Offshore Pro is announced but is not on sale: it has no published price and no checkout, and joining its waitlist creates no payment obligation of any kind.
5.2 Free trial
New subscribers get a 7-day free trial. When you start a trial on our website, no payment card is required to begin it. If no payment method is on file when the trial ends, the subscription simply ends and you are not charged. If a payment method is on file, the subscription continues automatically into a paid period at the price above.
Trials are one per account, and we may decline a trial to an account that has already had one.
5.3 How you are billed
Fishare Pro is sold on our website at fishare.app, where payment is processed by Stripe. Where Fishare Pro is offered as an in-app purchase through an app store, that store — not Fishare — takes the payment, and the store's own billing, renewal, cancellation and refund rules govern it. Unless we say otherwise, the rest of this section describes subscriptions bought on our website.
5.4 Automatic renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period — monthly for the monthly plan, annually for the annual plan — at the then-current price, until you cancel. We will email you before an annual subscription renews.
5.5 Cancelling
You can cancel at any time, with no minimum term and no cancellation fee, from the billing portal linked in your Fishare settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal: your Pro access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, then stops. Cancel during a free trial and access ends when the trial ends, with no charge.
If you bought through an app store, cancel in that store's subscription settings. Deleting the Fishare app, or deleting your Fishare account, does not cancel an app-store subscription.
5.6 Refunds
Because you can cancel at any time and the trial is free, we do not routinely refund a billing period that has already begun. We will refund a charge where:
- you were charged in error, or charged twice;
- you were charged after cancelling;
- a paid feature was substantially unavailable for a sustained period; or
- a consumer law that applies to you gives you a right to a refund — see section 17. Nothing in this section limits those rights.
Ask us at info@fishare.app. Refunds for app-store purchases are handled by that store under its own policy.
5.7 Price changes
We may change subscription prices. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email before a change applies to you, and a new price takes effect only from your next renewal. If you do not want the new price, cancel before that renewal.
5.8 Complimentary and grandfathered access
Some accounts hold Fishare Pro without paying — accounts created before our founding cut-off, competition and promotional redemptions, club and partner arrangements, and creator accounts. That access is a gift, not a purchase: it carries no price, no renewal and no refund, and we may end it on reasonable notice if the arrangement it came from ends.
5.9 If a payment fails
If a renewal payment fails we may retry it and may suspend Pro access until it succeeds. Your logbook, spots, photos and club history are not deleted when Pro access ends — you keep your data and the whole free product; only the ocean-intelligence layers lock.
6. Automated access, crawling and AI assistants
Our public pages are meant to be crawled. Our robots.txt welcomes search engines and explicitly allows AI and assistant crawlers, and our llms.txt exists to help them read us accurately. This section replaces the blanket ban on automated access in our earlier Terms, which contradicted those files.
Permitted. Crawling, indexing, summarising and quoting our public pages, at a courteous rate, in compliance with robots.txt — including by the AI crawlers we allow-list there. We grant a non-exclusive, revocable licence to index our public content and to use it to answer questions, provided Fishare is credited as the source and, where the format allows, linked.
Not permitted.
- Ignoring robots.txt, or fetching at a rate that degrades the Service for other people
- Reaching content behind a sign-in, a paywall or any other access control — including using someone else's account or credentials, or a technical workaround
- Harvesting other users' personal information, or trying to reconstruct private catch locations from public pages
- Systematically copying our content or data to build a substantially similar product, or to resell or redistribute the dataset in bulk
- Circumventing rate limits, quotas or authentication on our API or our AI connector
If you want bulk or commercial access to Fishare data, ask — we would rather licence it than block you. Write to info@fishare.app.
7. Acceptable use
When using Fishare, you agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading or fraudulent catch data, including in competitions
- Upload offensive, inappropriate or illegal content
- Harass, abuse or threaten other users
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems
- Use the Service for a commercial purpose without our written consent (see section 10)
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
- Publish the location of protected or threatened species in a way that puts them at risk
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.
8. Your content
You keep ownership of what you submit — catch photos, notes, session data, club records. By submitting content you grant Fishare a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display it for the purpose of operating and improving the Service, including on the public feed, leaderboards and share cards where you have chosen to share it. That licence ends for future use when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already distributed to others and copies we must keep to meet a legal obligation.
You are responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to share it.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. There is no tolerance for objectionable content — including content that is offensive, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate — or for abusive users. By using Fishare you agree not to post such content or behave abusively toward other anglers.
Reporting, blocking, and moderation. Every shared catch and photo can be reported from within the app, and you can block any other angler so their content no longer appears to you. We review reports of objectionable content and act on them — removing the content and ejecting the user who provided it — within 24 hours. To flag content or a user, use the report control on the item in the app, or contact us at support@fishare.app.
9. Aggregated and de-identified data
We use catch and condition data in aggregate to build and improve the forecast and habitat models the Service runs on. Where we do that, the data is aggregated or de-identified: it is not used to identify you, and we do not publish your exact fishing locations. How we handle your personal information is set out in the Privacy Policy.
10. Competitions and commercial use
Fishare's club and competition tools are free for community use. That includes fishing clubs and their competitions and points seasons, associations and inter-club events, school, junior and college teams, charity fundraisers, and other not-for-profit community competitions — with no limits on members, events, or admins.
A competition is commercial when it is run as a business. Indicators include: entry fees collected for profit (beyond covering prizes and running costs), a substantial cash prize pool, revenue from sponsorship or branding of the event, or an organiser that runs competitions as a commercial venture (such as tournament promoters, trail operators, or brand- or media-run events).
Commercial competitions require a commercial licence from Fishare before the competition opens for entries. Licences are quoted per event or per season — contact info@fishare.app. Running a commercial competition without a licence is a breach of these Terms, and we may suspend the competition or the organising account.
If you are unsure which side your event falls on, ask us — genuine community events err to free.
11. Fishing regulations — information, not legal advice
Fishare publishes size limits, bag limits, slot rules and closed seasons as a general reference, compiled from the responsible authority in each jurisdiction. Rules change, and our copy may be out of date or wrong for your exact location or circumstances.
This is information, not legal advice. It is your responsibility to check and comply with the rules, licence requirements and closures that apply where you are fishing. Confirm against the official source before you keep a fish. Fishare is not liable for fines, penalties or other consequences arising from reliance on what we publish.
12. Weather, marine and ocean data
Weather, tide, swell, sea-surface temperature, chlorophyll, current, altimetry and subsurface data shown in Fishare comes from third-party sources — including Open-Meteo, the Bureau of Meteorology, NOAA and Copernicus Marine — and from our own processing of those sources. The subsurface temperature ladder is modelled, not sensed.
All of it is for information only. Always check the official marine forecast and warnings before you go out, especially when fishing from rock platforms, small boats, bars or remote coastline. Fishare is not responsible for inaccurate environmental data or for decisions made from it.
13. Forecasts, habitat scores and AI features
Bite scores, access scores and habitat heatmaps are produced by Fishare's own models from oceanographic layers and fisheries datasets. Fish identification and the in-app fishing guide are assisted by third-party AI — the Privacy Policy says who processes what.
All of these outputs are estimates. They are suggestions, not guarantees, and they are sometimes wrong. A model output should never be the only reason you go somewhere, keep a fish, or judge that conditions are safe.
14. Safety
Fishing carries real risk, including drowning, being washed off rock platforms, exposure, and marine wildlife. Fishare does not replace safety judgement, and no score or forecast in the app is a statement that conditions are safe. You are responsible for your own safety. Rock-platform and sea-state warnings in the Service are advisory only.
15. Our intellectual property
The Fishare name, logo, design, written content, generated pages, datasets and underlying software belong to Fishare Oy or its licensors. Subject to section 6, you may not reproduce, modify, distribute or create derivative works from them without our written permission. Third-party data we redistribute remains subject to its own licence and attribution requirements.
16. Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, who processes it, and the choices you have.
17. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under a consumer law that cannot be excluded by agreement. Where such a law applies to you — including the Australian Consumer Law, and consumer protection law in the European Union, the United Kingdom and elsewhere — those rights stand, and the limits in section 18 apply only as far as that law allows.
18. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, and subject to section 17, Fishare Oy is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data, loss of profits, personal injury or property damage.
Subject to section 17, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) US$100.
19. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Fishare Oy against claims, damages, losses and reasonable expenses arising from your breach of these terms, from your content, or from your infringement of someone else's rights. This does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own breach or negligence, and it does not apply to consumers where the law does not permit it.
20. Suspension, termination and changes to the Service
You can stop using Fishare at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, if we must for legal or security reasons, or if we discontinue the Service. Where it is reasonable and lawful, we will give notice and an opportunity to request a copy of your data first. If we terminate a paid subscription other than for your breach, we will refund the unused part of the period you paid for.
We may modify, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service. If we remove a feature that is material to a paid subscription, you may cancel and we will refund the unused part of the current period.
21. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. For minor changes we will update this page and the "Last updated" date. For a change that materially affects your rights or your subscription, we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app before it takes effect, and you may cancel before then if you do not accept it. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept it.
Change log. July 31, 2026 — added the Fishare Pro subscription, trial, renewal, cancellation, refund and price-change terms (section 5); replaced the blanket ban on automated access with a crawling policy that matches robots.txt and llms.txt (section 6); identified Fishare Oy as the operator (section 1); added eligibility, aggregated-data, consumer-rights and termination sections. July 7, 2026 — previous version.
22. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country, or of a right to bring proceedings there where that law gives you one.
